Tips for starting my own successful business?
I have a lot of experience in design and marketing, and working with other small businesses. I want to start my own high end fashion jewelry business. I have been doing a lot of research on what I need to do to set up my business legally, educating myself on tax codes, obtaining wholesale supplies, pricing, etc. I already know a lot about branding, ecommerce, internet marketing, photography, etc. I worry that I am too naive or just dreaming-how do I know I have what it takes to really make it? I would love to do this full time. Also, I won’t be taking out loans, only spending my own money here and there, building my business slowly, doing most things myself to start. Is it possible to make it this way? What are some tips to succeed?
I would suggest working for a small business that is currently doing that type of work to gain experience and see if there’s a demand for that in your area. Also, it will allow you to meet potential customers and rivals and to also see if there’s a market for a new business in your area.
You’ll need at least 3x the amount of money that you’ve budgeted, good credit and the willingness to put in long hours. If one of those doesn’t sound appealing, I would suggest not going into business until they all sound at least “pretty good.”
